The Cavil’s of Montgomery County, Texas
James “Jim” Spiller Cavil and his sister Nancy Jane Spiller Westmoreland were born in Lynchburg, Virginia and brought to the Spiller Plantation in Old Waverly, Texas in the mid 1800’s. The two of them were somehow related to the family that brought them to Texas. Jim and his wife Rebecca had ten children (William-1863, Betty-1865, Ella Fair-1866, Nancy-1869, Garrett-1874, Sallie-1876, Eddie-1876, Son Campbell-1879, Jimmy-1881, Bud-1888) all born in the Danville community of Montgomery County.
Son Campbell Cavil met and married Betty Pollard on October 27, 1902. To this union two children were born, Artie Ruth in 1903 and Ben L. in 1905. After the death of Betty Pollard Cavil, Son Campbell met and married Pearl Jefferson Early who had a daughter Bessie Mae Early from a previous marriage.
Ben L. Cavil, Sr. was born May 29, 1905, in the Danville community approximately three miles northwest of Willis, (Montgomery County) Texas. At the age of three, his mother passed away and his aunt Nancy Owens, affectionately called “Mama Nannie” stepped in and assisted in the raising of the children. The children were nurtured in Old Danville and Ben attended Willis High School and then moved to Beaumont, Texas to enroll in Charlton-Pollard High School. Ben graduated in 1925 and enrolled in Wiley College in the fall of that year. Ben was a standout football player in college and became known as “Big Ben”. After finishing school he became a football coach, and met his wife Callie Louise Daniels while teaching in Minden, Louisiana. Ben L. and Callie had two children Ben, Jr. and William Campbell, and raised there family in Conroe, (Montgomery County) Texas. Ben was named principal of Booker T. Washington School in Conroe, Texas and remained there until his untimely death in 1963.
Ben L. Cavil, Jr. and Dolores J. Walker Cavil married in May, 1968 and had two sons, Ben Anthony Cavil (Nyesha Jackson Cavil) and Brian Eric Cavil. Ben Anthony and Nyesha have four girls, Cydney, Siani, Hannah, and Haley. Ben and Dolores Cavil currently reside in Texas City, Texas.
William C. Cavil and Brenda Norman Cavil married in January, 1972 and had two children, Adrienne Nicole Cavil and Jason William Cavil. Jason has two children Jamya, and Jaylon. William and Brenda Cavil currently reside in Dallas, Texas.
